Despite his weakening condition, Luffy refuses to eat and rest until the situation surrounding Sanji is resolved. Be it his injuries, his fatigue, or his hunger, Luffy through sheer willpower is ignoring it all to keep the promises he made with both Sanji and himself. The promise to not eat any food that isn’t made by Sanji before he rejoins the crew and the promise to protect his nakama. Luffy is putting his faith into Sanji’s hands and will wait at their promised place until either Sanji returns or he dies of hunger. That is how strongly Luffy believes in Sanji.
What has become obvious through the Totto Land Arc is the increasing importance of the Germa and their reach in relevance with regards to the story of One Piece. They have been introduced as an antagonist group but when viewed alongside the steps Oda-sensei has taken to flesh them out, it becomes apparent that they are not being handled in a manner akin to the other antagonistic groups we have seen in the past. The Germa’s goals only conflict with the Straw Hat Pirates goals marginally and they currently have no reason to directly oppose the Straw Hat Pirates. Once the Germa realise Sanji’s marriage with Pudding is worthless not to mention a prelude to their destruction, they won’t have any reason to stop Sanji from returning to the Straw Hat Pirates. Given that, what role are they meant to play then?
Just when I thought Vinsmoke Judge couldn’t be more of a fiend, he goes ahead and proves me wrong. I look forward to the day that smirk of his disappears in the moment he finds everything he fought, killed and destroyed for crumbles in front of him. The marriage between Sanji and Pudding is not going to happen and it is going to be so sweet seeing Judge come to terms with that realisation. For Judge to be so consumed by power, strength and status, he may be effective in wars, but he was a terrible father. The Vinsmoke name to Judge is a name to be feared, to strike terror in the hearts of any unfortunate to hear it uttered and a name he desires one day to be synonymous with the leaders of North Blue.
The hidden past of Sanji is finally being revealed, one which explores not only his ‘I will not kick a woman, even if I die’ stance but his love for cooking, kind heart and desire to be more than what his father demands of him. Not only is Vinsmoke Judge an old associate of Vegapunk but Judge has also improved the bodies of his five children to make them more than human, to make them leaders possessing grand power destined to pave the path forward for Germa 66.
The more we learn about the Germa 66, the more I am convinced that they will serve a much larger purpose than just the events in this arc dealing with Sanji’s upcoming wedding. There is so much intrigue, history and potential surrounding the Germa 66, I cannot see how Oda-sensei would be able to cover everything within an arc centered around the Big Mom Pirates as the main attraction. The Germa’s technology, their ambition and now their cyborg/clone/synthetic human development program, Oda-sensei definitely has something bigger planned for them, especially with the Vinsmoke Family being directly related to Sanji.
Of course Cracker was the user of the Biscuit Fruit…I can’t believe I didn’t notice this sooner, Oda left hints on Cracker’s very design and his name. I was so caught up on his “thousand arms” motif, I failed see that which was already in front of our eyes. I can understand why Luffy was caught off guard once he broke through Crackers
body armor. Cracker can use biscuits to create armor, weapons and even extra limbs on his armor.
So many twists and reveals in these past few chapters, I find myself left quite silenced and immensely liberated by the possibility these developments leave the story to develop towards. I was wondering how Oda-sensei would utilise the Mink race once the focus shifted towards Sanji and the Straw Hat Pirates struggles to get him back, but now with the reveal that there exist a long-standing relationship between the Mink race and the Kougetsu Wano Kuni Family, it seems inevitable the Mink race will be part of the story for a long while now, especially with the Wano Country yet to be even dealt with in the story. Kaidou and the Mink race will be intrinsically linked to the Wano Kuni story (and Kaidou’s) once the focus has shifted towards it.
