We have known about floating Islands in the sky since Skypiea and about man-made/alien Island flying constructs since that scene where Capone Bege was pulled into the sky pre-timeskip but this is the first time we have seen a Death Star type of weapon floating in the sky, although it could very be the construct Bege was attracted to pre-timeskip. With such a development, the World Government has now become the Empire within One Piece. If it was clear that the World Government are the final antagonist of One Piece (sorry Blackbeard), it should be very apparent now.Continue reading
Ever since the happenings surrounding Buggy within his initial appearance and the cover pages featuring him and his adventures, especially his meeting with Ace and the events that transpired within Impel Down, he has captured the essence of fortunate misfortune. Buggy may not get what he wants through the circumstances unraveling around him but what occurs is a miraculous level of serendipity that puts the fortune in misfortune. Truly, when it come to Buggy, when fortune strike, it always misses the mark for him hence that humorous spin of mis-fortune he is embraced by. Such a conveyance is expressed comprehensively within this chapter.Continue reading
Long ago in the past, there existed people who lived atop the Red Line that could generate flames from their body. After certain events occurred, these people were ‘lost in the mists of time’ and currently the only member of this race shown is King the Wildfire. Taking into account what we know about this race, we can extrapolate a few pieces of information about this race: they weren’t on friendly terms with the Tenryuubito and due to likely not wanting to give up their home, they were targeted and brought to the edge of extinction. Few may have escaped by abandoning their home but they lost to what is now the World Government. Marijoa may also have been the location of this races homeland. Like other shadows the World Government wishes to hide, they buried knowledge of such a race in the darkness of time, omitting them from the history they wish known.Continue reading
Edit note: Timeline updated with content featured up to chapter 1000.
Ace has become an extremely relevant character to the story of One Piece even with his death. It could be said that because of his death, Ace’s role in the story has transformed into an even more prominent one. Ace inspired both Luffy and Sabo and has become the driving force for both their adventures in the New World. Additionally, with the current events in Wano Kuni (as at chapter 987), Ace’s journey there 3-4 years ago is holding importance to the characters featured and the developments unraveling now.
Ace desired to help Tama and Wano Kuni when he was last there but presumably aware of his current strength at that time and his inability to take on Kaido, he departed Wano Kuni ensuring Tama that when he returns, Wano Kuni will be a country where she can eat all she wants. With that will unfulfilled, it now falls onto Luffy who has promised Tama that by the time the Straw Hat Pirates leave Wano Kuni, it will be a place she can eat as much as she wants, every single day. Considering how Ace’s adventure holds such an impact on the current events, it makes me wonder what exactly was Ace’s adventure like when he set sail 5 years ago?
It happened! Then again it was inevitable after the dealings Doflamingo involved himself in, the support by Isshou and the plea’s from Cobra and Riku. With their immunity status revoked, the former Shichibukai members are now wanted criminals and primary targets of capture. It was a fine line the World Government had to walk and while removing the “third power” will give them better optics to the world to ensure nations continue to follow them, they have in rapid succession made enemies of four very “powerful” and dangerous pirates – that includes you Buggy!
With the world crushed under the heel of the undeserving and the unjust, an echo within the darkness resonates out into the beyond with intent to shatter the heaven imprisoning the will of progress. An echo that has grown into a rallying cry for change and evolution. A voice that has beared its fangs in order to be heard. The Revolutionary Army has set their target and taken aim. The infiltration into Mariejois has begun, their target, the Tenryuubito.
Not only will the Straw Hat Pirates, the Shichibikai, the Yonko, the failings of the Marines and the Fishman Island proposal be relevant in the upcoming Reverie but the Revolutionary Army also seeks to declare their war against the Tenryuubito during the Reverie. Dragon has assembled all his Executives in order to take their war against the injustice of the world to the next level. As it stands the manifestation of the that injustice they seek to fight exist in the form of the current Tenryuubito who undeservedly carry themselves as Gods.
I had suspected that there was a genuine reason for Sabo not being at Ace’s execution trying to save him, but for him to have become amnesic after the explosion of his ship when he left the Goa King, I can’t help but see the convenience in that twist. Sure it is to be expected that an explosion and shock can cause a person to suffer memory loss, but in this case, it does feel a little too convenient that Sabo only managed to regain his memory after Ace had died. It is not a terribly illogical development, as the possibility had crossed my mind, but I was expecting something much more…surprising.
What a surprising gesture by Isshou and the Marines towards King Riku and the whole of Dressrosa whom have suffered because of the World Governments lack of control over the Shichibukai. Doflamingo was able to exploit the Shichibukai system and blackmail the World Government to turn a blind eye to the dealings and shady activities he had going on. It was because of that power that the people of Dressrosa have suffered so greatly for the past ten years. Isshou realises this and through his actions of expressing his sincere regret and sorrow, he is attempting to mend the relationship between the rightful king of Dressrosa, King Riku Dold, and the World Government.
What a surprise, so Doflamingo’s defeat has been extended to take place beyond this chapter. I was certain Oda was building up the previous chapter to set-up Doflamingo’s defeat in this chapter, but apparently Oda seeks to highlight the double-edged nature of Gear Fourth before he concludes the battle with Doflamingo. The benefit of focusing on the side-effects of using Gear Fourth is it helps to highlight the charm Luffy has and his ability to attract characters over to his side, which in this case happened to be Gatz and the Gladiator fighters who have been targeting him for the bounty Doflamingo placed on his head.
