Vigilant one should be in the presence of a will backed into a corner. Expectations can often become the debilitating web ensnaring ones judgment. Such was the case for Black Maria who seduced herself with her own ego, delusion and power. The projection she created dominated her perspective and shackled her foresight. Caution evaporated and left imprudence to pilot her actions. So entrenched was Black Maria by her arrogance, the thought of being overwhelmed by Robin became an impossibility. And within that absence of anticipation, a blind spot was spawned. Black Maria faced impossibility and could do little against the crumbling of her judgment. She was wrong and within her psychological descent, the terror known as “Devil Child” Robin overwhelmed Black Maria. Robin has won. And the Beast Pirates suffer another critical blow.Continue reading
Enigmatic, introverted and reserved, Robin may not always be frank with her feelings but when it comes to living the life saved by the Straw Hat Pirates, she is valorously expressive about her gratitude. It may not be in words but her actions speak just as loudly if not more so. Robin has lived a life where she was forced to detach herself from the construct of society and exist as a independent player within the shadows. Camaraderie and fellowship were nonexistent within such a world for Robin. That is, until she met Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates. Robin’s perspective and heart changed since her encounter with them. The joy she now feels is a direct result of the connections she has made with her fellow nakama. Robin realises she is not living life alone, she has others which she can live alongside. As a result, when those bonds are challenged, she won’t sit idly by and let others undermine those she cares about. Robin is aware that ignorance is bliss but she is also aware that vengeance is a dish best served cold and that is exactly what Black Maria has coming for her. The Devil Child has awakened and with it, the Lotus will bloom.Continue reading
Ah, what a glorious chapter. Within the inevitability of darkness, where prospects of hope and the tangibility of courage cease to exist, a glimmer piercing the veil of shadows endures. A miracle. A message. A mind unyielding to the inabilities of the past. Luffy has not lost. Luffy will not lose. Luffy refuses to lose. He will make it back to Kaido and beat him. The battle has not reached its end, it is but at a point where all hopes have gathered behind Luffy and Momonosuke. The Samurai may not know Luffy but they believe in Momonosuke and Momonosuke believes in Luffy. Every second endured is a second closer to Luffy’s return and Kaido’s defeat. Don’t give up! And Fight!Continue reading
Out of the shadows and into the focus. The target of the Yonko, Nico Robin, has intentionally made herself present answering the call for help from an ally who has complete faith in her ability to not only save him but also defeat the enemy he is powerless to challenge. Knowing full well that a trap awaits, the only person in the world capable of guiding others to Laugh Tale now alongside the Spirit of the Underworld (the Soul King) engages in a battle against one of Kaido’s top officers. And should Robin lose, not only will her future be in question but the liberation of Wano Kuni from the tyrants destroying the country will also be impacted.Continue reading
Identifying a role for Yamato if they were to join the Straw Hat Pirate crew is a very curious task. Not only because barely anything has been revealed about a role required for the Straw Hat Pirates for the remainder of the journey but also because nothing concrete has been associated with Yamato in terms of what role they could perform. We also have to take into account the stage the story of One Piece is at because with the conclusion of One Piece in sight for Oda-sensei, they may not be much room left for adventuring reducing the need for traditional ship roles. Rather, if a character were to join the crew at this point in time, their main role within the crew would be story-driven. A secondary role performing task onboard the ship would arise as a byproduct from that story-driven role they primarily represent.Continue reading
Betraying every underestimation cast upon them by the rulers of the sea, the Straw Hat Pirates break through the arrogance of the Yonko and stamp their existence deeply within the Yonko’s rage. With the ripples of their presence ignored until impossible, chaos has taken over and erupted because of them. Right now, with the identity of the age on the brink, they have gathered. The Straw Hat Pirates have finally assembled. All ten current members. And Luffy has his sight set firmly on Kaido with the intention of sending him flying. The Beast Pirates who impede his path become the targets of the Straw Hat Pirates. War has begun. And the challengers have made their move.Continue reading
To think that Pirates crews can become so large that the system of meritocracy has to be implemented in order to motivate its members to continue contributing to the crew. It appears that the Beast Pirates are less a Pirate Crew and more a criminal organisation or even beyond that with the different divisions and number of members, a small nation. Given the power and influence the Yonko wield it does make sense that their operations can grow in size to such levels but to think that it can involve corrupting a nation and twisting it to become a weapons producer for the different factions vying for power around the world. Contrary to Kaido’s introduction where it appeared he wished to kill himself, he is a very ambiguous individual.Continue reading
I have been waiting for this chapter where the focus shifts towards the Beast Pirates and Oda-sensei highlights the scope of the force Kaido leads. There are more divisions within the Beast Pirates than I expected and this isn’t even including Orochi’s forces and the Big Mom Pirates. Fortunately the larger an army Kaido has the more focus the Straw Hat Pirates will receive in regards to each individual member battle potential. It has been a long time since we had such an arc where the individual members within the Straw Hat Pirates get their own battles to be focused on but if there was any arc for that to happen again, it definitely is within this arc. With the Beast Pirates introducing many named characters within the divisions who have been highlighted as being strong, the stage is being set for these named characters to be matched up against the individual Straw Hat Pirate members.
Luffy’s straight forward personality and condensed outlook on life has led phim to attacking a Headliner in order to protect an old man called Hyougoro, who happens to be one of the people the Straw Hat Pirates require in order to rally a rebellion before their assault on Onigashima Island against Kaidou. Hyougoro is a man of legend within Wano Kuni who is deeply respected and beloved by many longing for the days before Orochi’s upheaval that cast the people’s reality into a nightmare of misery, hopelessness and despair. If the Straw Hat Pirates and their allies seek to establish a significant force to take on the Beast Pirates, they will require Luffy to escape with Hyougoro.
I can’t put my finger on it but something insanely massive is going to go down soon that should have been impossible and I am not talking about Kaidou being defeated because that was never impossible but rather just a matter of time. The build up seems too awkward to not have something happen to shake everything up. The Yonko need to really get how particular Luffy is and why he has made it this far into the New World without having to sacrifice his ideals and beliefs. The qualities that Luffy embodies is what made Whitebeard leave the New Age to the future generation. Will Kaidou and Big Mom see in Luffy what Shanks and Whitebeard saw?
