Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest Chapter 112 – Selene’s Wish

Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest Chapter 112 - Selene reveals her dream to Gray

Now that Selene has found an answer to the Five Dragons issue she was consumed by, her demeanor has softened substantially to the point where her obsession over the end sought has given way to relief. A release of distress at the uncertainty and implausibility of achieving what she wished. Desperation paved the path toward her questionable actions and encouraged her methodology of how she balanced anxiety and alleviation. Entertainment became Selene’s medicine when remedying the madness deduced from the magnitude of her mission. There was no room left for compassion, only an equal level of madness to propel herself forward toward the darkened path before her. With Selene’s eyes now focused on the answer to her concerns, she appears to see more clearly than ever before. And within this newfound realization, Selene also appears to be reflecting on the equivocal nature of her past actions.

Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest Chapter 107 – Selene VS Ignia: Diversion

Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest Chapter 107 - Selene and Ignia clash

Ignia presents himself as such an entitled fool. He has disillusioned himself to the point of believing he is the strongest existence walking the Earth Land but where was he when the real threats of the world endangered life and brought everything to the brink of annihilation? Ah, that is right, he was hiding in Guiltina away from Acnologia. Ignia keeps mentioning he was stronger than Acnologia and that he would have killed Acnologia had he met him. But all Ignia has to pad his claims are words. Hollow, exaggerated, meaningless words. At no time during the 400 years Acnologia was present did Ignia even attempt to face him. Not even when Acnologia himself was present in Guiltina during the attempt Gildarts made at the 100-year-quest. Ignia hid. And now he has the gall to preach himself as the hero who could have taken down Acnologia? Sorry but I don’t buy that. Ignia is much weaker than he believes. His claim of being stronger than Acnologia is just a fantasy. A diversion from reality his mind enraptured his belief in to cope with his own inabilities. Even now, against Selene, he used a moment of distraction to capitalize on Selene’s weakened guard. The path Ignia has before him is one where the bitter reality of truth will come crashing down on him.

Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest Chapter 101 – Ignia: Noble Destruction

Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest Chapter 101 – Ignia unleashes his flames

Flames are an element that resides on both sides of existence. It can destroy and it can create. The raging inferno it embodies consumes all but within its ceaseless passion, the ashes it leaves behind can awaken life and initiate a state of renewal. The conflict established between Ignia and Natsu pits the two characteristics of flames together and while the confrontation of their intentions collides in this moment, the stage on which their inevitable clash will take place lives in a future time.

Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest Chapter 100 – Natsu VS Suzaku: Instinct

Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest Chapter 100 - Natsu VS Suzaku

Amidst the heated and imperative battle between Natsu and Suzaku who find themselves evenly matched blow for blow, an unexpected third party arrives to crash their reunion and engagement of unresolved emotions. An entity so overwhelming, what was thought impossible before seemed casually reasonable for this individual. The walls of Dogramag’s Labyrinth was unaffected by any of the Fairy Tail or Diabolos mages yet when he arrived, it became nothing more than butter destined to melt away. Ignia, the Fire Dragon God has arrived which has left everyone, including Selene shocked and shaken. I was not at all expecting Ignia’s arrival and neither did I expect to see Selene with such a terrified expression on her face. What are these secrets locked away in the Labyrinth and who will be the one to claim whatever is locked away inside? Congratulations on 100 chapters Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest!

Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest Chapter 99 – Erza VS Misaki: Shatter

Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest Chapter 99 - Erza VS Misaki

As the great Labyrinth of Dogramag reconstructs itself into a different layout, the positioning of various characters shift itself. Allies are separated and reunited, and at the same time encounters with antagonistic forces begins to arise. Natsu runs into Suzaku, Lucy drops in on Kiria and Erza’s team meets Misaki. Almost as soon as they meet, Misaki is attacking Fairy Tail with Erza being the subject of her offense. Intending to kill Erza, Misaki fails at that but succeeds in shattering Erza’s armor and hair. The hair Erza had come to care greatly for ever since Jellal got a pardon from Queen Hisui. Erza’s feelings for Jellal have been attached to her hair so having it torn apart like that is an act that won’t be brushed aside so easily. Erza is mad and burning to unleash.

Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest Chapter 95 – Dogramag: Inside The Living Labyrinth

Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest Chapter 95 - Laxus and Kirin meet

With the labyrinth now possessing a sentience, one does begin to wonder why Dogramag chose to evoke the form of a labyrinth from their remaining spirit when defeated by Elefseria. What does the labyrinth serve and why even embody such a construct in the first place? Does Dogramag seek to protect something? Or are the intentions they possess all but noise with their life having been sealed in the past? But if they were truly killed, would it ultimately matter if they failed in protecting whatever they are protecting? Something definitely is in play with the Labyrinth and I suspect due to Dogramag being the weakest of the Six Dragon Gods, they bridged any gap in power that existed with moments of cunning.

Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest Chapter 94 – Dogramag: Selene’s Game

Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest Chapter 94 - Selene's game

Selene may be underestimating Fairy Tail but there is part of her that recognises the significance of Fairy Tail that played a major role in taking down Acnologia. Otherwise such a game would not be entertained by Selene. She may be overconfident but she presents herself as someone who is also careful to not get drunk by her power. Her status as a Dragon God isn’t just a title but one that embodies exactly what she is. Black and white doesn’t capture the vastness of existence and Selene realises that. Enemies that have reason to fight you don’t necessarily have to be enemies. The manner in how she became Diabolos’s Guild Master AND convinced Fairy Tail to take part in her game is testament to her charisma and power of negotiation. Selene understands her nature as well as how others perceive her. Such self-awareness is part of the reason for why Selene is such an amazing and curious character.

Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest Chapter 93 – Dogramag: The Great Labyrinth

Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest Chapter 93 - Selene's initiates the game between Fairy Tail and Diabolos within the Great Labyrinth

Even in death, a Dragon still roars. Such is the case with the sixth Dragon that used to be part of the Six Dragon Gods but after conflicting with Elefseria, the dragon lost its life and fell back to the Earth it embodies. Separated from the plane of life but still existing within the power clinging to the Earth. Dogramag not only resonates with a purpose yet to uncover but within its confines it also wardens the heart of Elefseria that it devoured during the conclusion of their battle 100 years ago. The Great Labyrinth of Dogra continues to expand and at its heart remains the heart of the Law Dragon, Elefseria. Selene has arrived to initiate the challenge and with the darkening of the sky, the confrontation between Fairy Tail and Diabolos begins.

Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest Chapter 85-89 – Team Natsu VS Alta Face

Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest chapter 88 - Team Natsu defeat Alta Face

The cause of the danger leading Elentir to the brink had less to do with Selene directly affecting it and more to do with the distortion she created indirectly amplifying a problem that already existed from ancient times on Elentir. The issue was in the form of Alta Face that throw the equilibrium of magic and life into imbalance. Selene was likely unaware of the exact specifics behind the imbalance but she sensed the effects of her distortion and relished in its potential for destruction. An event of amusement piquing the intrigue of a Dragon existing beyond the rationality of mortals. With Alta Face defeated and the balance of Elentir on the path to restoration, what now will come of the world and in particular, Selene. Will she revisit the world or will her concerns deviate toward the consumption of vengeance?

Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest (Manga) – The Adventure Beyond

Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest chapter 1 - opening colour spread

When an end arrives, emotions from the corners of the extremes meld together into an ineffable moment. Whether it be joy, sorrow, relief, disappointment, satisfaction, numbness or indifference. It is a moment where the many feelings one holds for that experience cascades together. A story is no different. Upon its end, you come to characterise the meaning of the experience within emotion. If a story is particularly enjoyable and resonant with ones heart, a fascination for what lies beyond emerges. Such is the case with Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest for me. I can’t help but feel privileged and grateful that such a joyous and enjoyable story has a continuation. A story that now sees Fairy Tail target the 100 Years Quest that no other mage guild has managed to complete is over a century. Let the new adventure commence!
