[Theory] One Piece – Yamato And Fish-Man Island

When the Straw Hat Pirates visit Fish-Man Island again, I suspect the Island’s deeper relevance to the Void Century will be covered as the story threads of Poseidon, the “Ship of Promise” Noah, Wano and Luffy are weaved together. Obviously when that time comes, the Straw Hat Pirates are going to need someone who is both aware of Joy Boy and familiar with the Mythical Zoan Dragon Devil Fruit. Thankfully, Oda has crafted a character that fills such a purpose in the Wano arc i.e. Yamato.

We are at the stage in the story where it becomes harder to consider new characters potential Straw Hat Pirates given the limited runway left in the manga. At the moment, no other character has been as closely linked to the Straw Hat Pirates and their end goal within the story as Yamato.

When you couple Yamato’s curiosity for the “Will of D” and Luffy with Yamato’s desire to sail the seas, their love for adventure and their awareness of Joy Boy and the “Dawn”, it seems apt to have such a character more closely tied to the Straw Hat Pirates and Law than not. And given Law’s interest in the history of D, he WILL be traveling alongside the Straw Hat Pirates to their next destination that involves further information sourced from the Poneglyphs and Road Poneglyphs (Robin is the only one who can translate the stone text for him).

One of the most relevant aspects to Yamato’s character is them being aware of Luffy for over three years since their encounter with Ace. Yamato has known about Luffy longer than any of the other Straw Hat Pirates. Back when they met Ace, Yamato wanted to join him on his ship but was overwhelmed by fear to make the leap. Ever since that moment, they have been waiting for Luffy, confident that he will arrive in Wano Kuni. Yamato has shown belief in Luffy for three years without even having directly met him. And along with using “Oden” as a source of strength to keep their fears at bay, they have also relied on the eventual meeting with Luffy as a “hope” to continue forward. Yamato believes Luffy will defeat Kaido and help open the borders of Wano Kuni.

Not only has Yamato been waiting for Luffy but as illustrated in chapter 996 they have been conscientiously following the Straw Hat Pirates journey. Yamato is aware of the Straw Hat Pirate members, their epithets and their bounties. Even their recent actions within Dressrosa, Yamato knows about it.

Through the span of two chapters, Yamato has become an immensely fascinating character whose entrance beckons curiosity. Not only did Yamato arrive with a memorable and glorious entrance but the potential capacity Yamato has for development and story has left a marked impression on her as a character.

Lets take the potential of Monet’s character further and delve into the essence of a possible role Monet can serve as both a member of the Straw Hat Pirates and as a character within the One Piece story.

The core of the potential I am talking about is how a character can flesh out the existing story of One Piece and further expand on what has been established through 798 chapters. The common theme with the female Straw Hat members is that their dreams add an immense amount of development to the world of One Piece – the geography of the world and the history of the world. From my perspective, a future female Straw Hat member will impact the story in similar manner with their dream.

Can the past of Nami and Robin help to predict who a potential female nakama could be?

They are only two female characters currently in the Straw Hat Pirates, so it may be hard to try to predict what qualities another female character would need to possess to potentially become a Straw Hat member, but even with two we can still try to dissect some notable consistencies or similarities that may help in identifying a female character that could have potential in becoming the next female to join the Straw Hat Pirates.

Throughout One Piece Luffy has come across many things which excite and mesmerize him, some of which he has repeatedly mentioned wanting. For the most part, he has gotten what he wants, such as a navigator, a cook, a doctor, beams, a robot, a skeleton, a musician. But there are still two things Luffy currently doesn’t have which he has repeatedly shown excitement for throughout the One Piece manga (well three if you include meat when it runs out). Those two things are a giant [bronze] statue and snow.

What adventures await the Straw Hat Pirates in the New World?

If Monet really is an astronomer, we may very well get an arc/saga centered around the moons and space in the future. How exciting would it be to see the Straw Hat Pirates sail across the “Black Sea” towards one of the moons of the One Piece world?

The fact that Oda had revealed in the Enel’s Great Space Operation cover story that there are Space Pirates and Space Pirate ships within the One Piece universe, the possibility of space being sailed upon does exist. Since a precedent has been set, it is possible for the Straw Hat Pirates to “sail” in space like the Space Pirates do.

I am still curious as to why Luffy didn’t want to fight seriously against Monet

I believe Monet is currently heading towards Dressrosa, but there are some other events which I believe took place during the time on Punk Hazard that will force Monet to interact with the Straw Hat Pirates again.

With there being evidence that Monet’s heart may not have been fully stabbed and still beating, one begins to wonder whatever happened to it while it was still at the harbor of Punk Hazard?

Given the way Monet was prepared to sacrifice herself for her captain, there is certainly a deep level of loyalty between Monet and Doflamingo. But what exactly founded such a loyalty and what keeps Monet maintaining such a loyalty towards Doflamingo?
