Clowns are often representative of entertainment but beyond the joy they reflect onto children, they also find symbolic meaning in nightmares within pop culture. This is why horror themed settings feature Clowns and amusement parks prominently within its narrative. There is a certain inherent terror sourced from subjects that embody innocence such as clowns, nuns, dolls or children. One of the most well known and genuinely terrifying horror characters is a clown (Pennywise). Following in tune with such a depiction, Clown’s Requip mode is a Nightmare version of his self. One that reflects the darker side of clowns. And true to its portrayal, the ominous cloud of terror is immediately felt as Rebecca disappears from sight leaving just Pino and Happy alone with Clown. (Pro tip: Don’t talk to clowns that happen to be in sewers).Continue reading
The concept of strength exist in a state beyond the perception of ones abilities. Components comprising ones power incorporates more than just the martial proficiency of an individual. Awareness, determination, empathy, resonance, compatibility, familiarity, adaptation and luck are some elements that define the extents of ones abilities. And when it comes to Rebecca, she may not have battle experience equivalent to what the other members of the Edens Zero possess but what she does have is a brilliant acumen toward tackling obstacles and rising above them. Rebecca accepts her current state and rather than dwell on what she does not possess, she had directed her attention toward what she can do and utilising that to stand against those challenging the bonds of her family. The perception of strength is inconsequential to the conviction she holds towards her decision of protecting her family.Continue reading
The implications pertaining to the revelation at the end of the chapter echoes a deeper regard toward the history of the constructs of Ziggy. Why do they know each other and when did they have the chance to encounter each other? Were the Shining and Dark Stars “created” by Ziggy or transformed by him into the form they now take. Unlike any of the other robots Ziggy has created, the Shining and Dark Stars bear a close resemblance to humans in the form they take – why? Why not design your elite force to look more mechanical than human? Could it be that the Shining and Dark Stars aren’t machines by origin but in fact humans who at some point Ziggy decided to save/use by reviving their minds in a mechanical body?Continue reading
Capitalizing on his deception, Ziggy continues to force Elsie’s defenses down in order to land a finishing blow on her. Elsie on the other hand, struggling to stabilize her mind and body from the injury, is given no time to evaluate what just happened due to immediately and continuously being barraged by forces of gravity. Likely, Elsie’s mind is still reeling from the unintended reaction at Ziggy’s hollow and dishonest plea. Elsie fully intended to kill Ziggy but something within her heart compelled her to pause at the performance of Ziggy. An act that reached deep inside Elsie’s heart and triggered feelings Elsie thought she locked deep away before engaging in this battle. Along with her body being in shock from the injury, her mind as well remained in disbelief. Thankfully though, a third party arrived to save her from such a situation. A savior in the form of a person who too wishes to kill her. Justice.Continue reading
It is not easy to vilify a parental figure within your life, especially one who removed you from circumstances embedded in destruction, terror and war. When Elsie looks at Ziggy, she is reminded of a time in her life impressed in joy, love and salvation. Ziggy did save Elsie and the subsequent care she received aboard the Edens Zero established an environment within which she could recover physically, mentally and spiritually. To Elsie, the image of Ziggy had become synonymous with shades of altruism. And to now reconcile those feelings against the current reality that Ziggy is in fact a madman seeking to end life, the step she is required to take may in fact be too heavy within this moment.
Elsie was the spark that ignited the conflict overflowing within factions of the Kaede Cosmos. She may not have been the cause for the conflict but she did become the basis on which the dissenting factions could maneuver their antagonism through. Under the pretense of “unraveling an unchecked power that grew too strong” war was waged. Guilt would have been one of the elements gnawing away within Elsie as she sunk within misery but it was due to the crew of the Edens Zero that her young self could navigate out from that darkness and onto a path filled with hope and motivation. Elsie is who she is because of the time she spent aboard the Edens Zero. Such emotions within her heart resonates every moment she interacts with Ziggy. The battle she wages is not only against Ziggy but also against the impressions of her heart that recalls happier times.Continue reading
Lendard was not only a former kingdom in the Kaede Cosmos but it was in fact the homeworld of Elsie Crimson, whose real name is Elsie Le Lendard. This planet was the one where Elsie’s life changed forever after attempting to end the obsession the kingdom had for arms development. In pursuit of such an end, she unknowingly initiated a war that would engulf the whole Cosmos and end the rule of the Le Lendard family. Her choices driven by innocent hopes of peace resulted in the destruction of the society existing within the Kaede Cosmos. Additionally, it was during her escape from Lendard where she lost/injured her right eye. Now having returned home, Elsie seeks to put a stop to Lendard’s weapon manufacturing once again. This time by defeating Ziggy.Continue reading
One of the most creative concepts Mashima-sensei introduced in Edens Zero and once again it continues to fascinate. The Chronophage, it was bound to resurface sooner or later and it appears that in an arc where Ziggy is the enemy residing on a planet that has been converted into an living military android production factory, the circumstances have aligned to bring it back into focus. The Chronophage is an existence that is drawn to time and for yet unknown reasons, consumes time. Whether it is for sustenance or accumulation of energy for a certain objective, too little is known at present to lean on any specific conclusion. I suspect though that there is an intention driving the Chronophage’s actions, one that is very particular about the planets targeted.Continue reading
