Vigilant one should be in the presence of a will backed into a corner. Expectations can often become the debilitating web ensnaring ones judgment. Such was the case for Black Maria who seduced herself with her own ego, delusion and power. The projection she created dominated her perspective and shackled her foresight. Caution evaporated and left imprudence to pilot her actions. So entrenched was Black Maria by her arrogance, the thought of being overwhelmed by Robin became an impossibility. And within that absence of anticipation, a blind spot was spawned. Black Maria faced impossibility and could do little against the crumbling of her judgment. She was wrong and within her psychological descent, the terror known as “Devil Child” Robin overwhelmed Black Maria. Robin has won. And the Beast Pirates suffer another critical blow.Continue reading
What a exhilarating display of power, technique and composure by Jinbe. I am left in awe. To handle the six forms of the Cipher Pol secret arts and to defend, evade and then counter them. Jinbe is a master for a reason. Who’s Who has been utterly bested. The battle is over but Who’s Who will not be killed by Jinbe as the CP-0 expect. And unbeknownst to the CP-0, there are others present on Onigashima that possess more dangerous knowledge of the secrets hidden in the past that the World Government wishes kept buried (Momonosuke, Yamato, Kaido and Robin).Continue reading
None of the challengers so far facing off against Big Mom and Kaido have yet to escape the gaping chasm of differing power levels that exist between the Emperor and themselves. Page One encountered Big Mom and was taken out by one hit. Likewise, Ulti, looking for an avenue to vent her rage sourced from witnessing Page One getting injured has met the same fate when facing off against Big Mom. After one hit from Big Mom’s Master Cannon, Ulti is unconscious and defeated. The only two characters that have somewhat challenged the Yonko are Luffy and Zoro. Yet, both are incapacitated with Zoro momentarily out of commission and Luffy unconscious plummeting from Onigashima floating in the sky toward the ocean below or the Wano mainland if Onigashima has reached it. Will an ‘ally’ able to traverse the skies save Luffy or will the awaiting ground or ocean below greet Luffy with its vast embrace?Continue reading
It has finally been confirmed. Kanjuro and Orochi are still alive. Of course they are. From the moment their were presented as having been killed, it was obvious their deaths were only a misdirect to remove their presence from the focus of the story so that when they do reappear, a dramatic reveal could be possible. Death in One Piece for present time named characters is handled very subjectively. No matter how dead someone may appear in the story when their death scene is initially presented, if there is any ambiguity in their deaths, it is almost certain that they are still alive (looks at Vergo and Monet). The two conditions that are seemingly required before a present time named character can die are moving the plot forward substantially with their deaths and having another character(s) in the story ready to carry on their will. Neither Kanjuro or Orochi had any of that. Their reappearances more than a surprise were an expectant inevitability.Continue reading
Express your resolve and shout it out loud. For twenty long years, this moment has permeated in the depths of Yamato’s mind. Regret at her inability, frustration at her weakness and self-reproach for not being able to save Momonosuke whom she thought had died on that day twenty years ago. Now with his presence before her, Yamato gathers all those feelings alongside her conviction inspired by the spirit of Oden and declares her position to both Momonosuke and the Beast Pirates. She was not strong enough twenty years but in this moment, she will bear the weight of the Beast Pirates against her and challenge death itself if the need arises in order to protect Momonosuke and the dream the Kozuki family embody.Continue reading
Seeing as the Beast Pirates were susceptible to spies joining their ranks or affiliates (X Drake and Kyoshiro), other factions may have sent undercover agents to join the Beast Pirates. One person I can see stationing a member of their crew within the Beast Pirates to keep tabs on Kaido and his actions is Doflamingo. It has been established already how shrewd a man Doflamingo is and the extents he goes to in order to protect himself and his status. Information was one of Doflamingo’s most powerful weapons. It allowed him to become a Shichibukai and to keep the World Government at bay and semi-subservient to him (using the CP-0 to trick Law into believing he quit being a Shichibukai). Doflamingo had Monet go undercover in the Dressrosa Palace prior to their invasion and on Punk Hazard to keep eyes on Caesar, a partner in his dealings with Kaido. Given all that Doflamingo has done, it seems natural he would also have had someone positioned at one point in time undercover in the Beast Pirates.Continue reading
The story of Wano Kuni is largely inspired by the Japanese folklore Momotarō. Within the story, Momotarō is born from a peach which an old couple find floating down a river. The couple named the child Momotarō (Momo being Peach). When the child matured, he left his parents to fight a band of Oni who marauded over the land. The Oni resided in the distant Island, Onigashima. Along the way, Momotarō met and befriended a talking dog, monkey and pheasant, who agreed to help him with his quest in exchange for a portion of his rations – kibi dango. When the group reached Onigashima, they penetrated the demons’ fort and defeated the band of demons. Momotarō and his friends returned home with the demons’ stolen treasure and the demon chief as captive.
While the Wano Kuni story is not stroke for stroke with the Momotarō folklore, Oda-sensei takes deep inspiration from major elements within the story. Momotarō is represented through Momonosuke. The Oni are represented by the Beast Pirates with the Oni chief being Kaido. Onigashima Island is the home base of Kaido. The plundered treasure is the home country of Momonosuke and his people’s freedom. Along the journey to Onigashima, Momonosuke befriends Luffy (who represents the Monkey) and Inuarashi (who represents the talking dog) and requests their aid in his quest to liberate Wano Kuni from Kaido and Orochi. Luffy answers Momonosuke’s request with a promise that he will defeat Kaido. Inuarashi protects Momonosuke and brings him to Wano Kuni. As at chapter 987, the Pheasant has yet to be revealed.Continue reading
Blinded by the lust for chaos. Drunk from the feeling of invincibility. And oblivious to the reverberations of the human heart. Kaido along with Linlin set their plan into motion. A plan marked to change the very fibers of piracy. An age of piracy designed to engulf the world in fear. A world in which the reality of order submits to the violence of chaos. A reality in which the Ancient Weapons are used as the tool to reign supreme over all where war becomes the lifestyle humanity will be plunged into. One Piece has become their goal. The Ancient Weapons their pillars. And the world on fire their path. The New Onigashima Project begins.Continue reading
And so the wheels of fate turn on the path called life towards a destination intertwined with adventure, realisation, misery, sorrow and death. The meeting that set in motion the events leading up to the current events where legends were created and the hungering arms of greed motioned towards its endless desire for what it perceives as satisfaction. A meeting longed for by Oden whom sought a bridge towards the world outside of Wano Kuni. And with his overwhelming joy conveyed through his welcoming strike, he proposes his intention to join the crew of the Whitebeard Pirates.
To think everything Oden did was to force his father into a corner where he had no choice but to officially disown Oden. All in order to free himself from the boundaries Wano Kuni imposes on him. Oden deliberately prevented Kin’emon from revealing the truth and bore the disdain and blame from the Flower Capital citizens affected by the Mountain God incident. Was Oden driven by some deeper purpose attached to the history of Wano Kuni and their association to the Ancient Civilisation or was Oden genuinely constricted by the borders of Wano Kuni?
