Edens Zero Chapter 194 – Hermit VS Killer: Overdrive

Edens Zero Chapter 194 - Hermit activates her Overdrive

Hermit’s measured reaction to Killer’s unhinged madness was intensely phenomenal. While Killer manically boast over accessing Overdrive, Hermit is just there observing his ignorance before unleashing her own ascension into Overdrive. The climatic reveal with Hermit looking down on Killer in her empowered form before responding to Killer’s silenced state with “so was I” was exceptionally glorious. I love it. What a badass, Hermit. Her Overdrive form looks incredible. That almost smug expression (in the best kind of ways) on Hermit’s face while awakening her Overdrive and staring at Killer told everyone enough to know how she triumphed over Killer in that pre-psychological battle taking place. Killer getting a taste of his own taunts was surprisingly satisfying.

Ether is more than just a power but the breath of the universe sustaining its functionality. It is an energy that flows through all things and associates with all matter, whether it be tangible, ethereal or formless. It isn’t restricted by state and is in essence an aspect of the universe that exist beyond space and time. Accordingly, not only living beings can access the body of Ether, it is by the nature of the universe, present in everything. Edens Zero Chapter 193 – Weisz VS Killer: Sacrifice

Edens Zero Chapter 193 - Weisz defends his mother from Killer

The manner in how Killer entrapped Weisz mentally, emotionally and physically deserves acknowledgement. He understood Weisz intimately and exploited that knowledge expertly to carve out a moment of doubt which in turn opened Weisz up to the defeat he ultimately suffered. Battles aren’t just reduced to a derivation of numbers. It often embodies a subtle process of understanding your opponent and employing more than the weight of your fist. Killer in this situation, emotionally staggered Weisz and took advantage of his vulnerable mind to corner Weisz into his trap. The love Weisz felt toward his mother became the choice that led to his defeat in this situation.

Edens Zero Chapter 191 – Eclipsed Memories

Edens Zero Chapter 191 - Weisz meets his mother in the subdimension program

It is incredibly curious how the main aspects driving the current story forward are the events which have transpired in the past for the characters. Equally as relevant as the happenings taking place in the present are the occurrences from the past the characters were involved in. Case in point, Ziggy, the actions he took in the past has set the foundation for this entire conflict. Before Dark Ziggy’s arrival, base Ziggy had put a plan in motion. The complete specifics are unknown but as Shiki is beginning to suspect, base Ziggy foresaw the arrival of Dark Ziggy and established countermeasures, one of which being Shiki himself. The past and memories concealed within the shadows of the mind apply to every other character as well. It goes beyond just motivations and into the realm of existence. How does ones past influence their present and in the case of memories being omitted, can it change a character completely?

Edens Zero Chapter 190 – Rebecca VS Clown: Nightmare

Edens Zero Chapter 190 - Rebecca equips Happy guns

Clowns are often representative of entertainment but beyond the joy they reflect onto children, they also find symbolic meaning in nightmares within pop culture. This is why horror themed settings feature Clowns and amusement parks prominently within its narrative. There is a certain inherent terror sourced from subjects that embody innocence such as clowns, nuns, dolls or children. One of the most well known and genuinely terrifying horror characters is a clown (Pennywise). Following in tune with such a depiction, Clown’s Requip mode is a Nightmare version of his self. One that reflects the darker side of clowns. And true to its portrayal, the ominous cloud of terror is immediately felt as Rebecca disappears from sight leaving just Pino and Happy alone with Clown. (Pro tip: Don’t talk to clowns that happen to be in sewers).

Edens Zero Chapter 189 – Rebecca VS Clown: Conviction

Edens Zero Chapter 189 - Rebecca activates Ether Overdrive to fight Clown

The concept of strength exist in a state beyond the perception of ones abilities. Components comprising ones power incorporates more than just the martial proficiency of an individual. Awareness, determination, empathy, resonance, compatibility, familiarity, adaptation and luck are some elements that define the extents of ones abilities. And when it comes to Rebecca, she may not have battle experience equivalent to what the other members of the Edens Zero possess but what she does have is a brilliant acumen toward tackling obstacles and rising above them. Rebecca accepts her current state and rather than dwell on what she does not possess, she had directed her attention toward what she can do and utilising that to stand against those challenging the bonds of her family. The perception of strength is inconsequential to the conviction she holds towards her decision of protecting her family.

[Analysis] Edens Zero – Labilia: The Girl Who Lost Herself In Her Affection

Edens Zero Chapter 178 - Rebecca reaches out to Labilia as a friend

I was indifferent to Labilia’s character initially but after chapter 178, I began to see her in a completely new light. That chapter not only highlighted Rebecca’s embracing self but it also recontextualized the entire relationship Labilia and Rebecca share.

Since their first time interacting with each other, they were bonded as B-cubers. The relationship may have been a toxic and negative one on the surface but with Labilia’s side of the story now being told, we have come to understand to an extent what was really going on with her. Labilia never meant malice through her actions but her love had just become too twisted from her confused mind. She couldn’t comprehend Rebecca and within that fog, she began to express her feelings for Rebecca in unorthodox ways.

Edens Zero Chapter 188 – Shiki VS Wizard: Breakthrough

Edens Zero Chapter 188 - Shiki defeats Wizard

Shiki has finally arrived at the curiosity that is Ziggy’s actions and the enigma surrounding them. Before returning to Granbell and leaving the Edens Zero, Ziggy wasn’t driven by dark intentions but he still proceeded to wipe the memories of the Four Shining Stars that related to events outside the Sakura Cosmos. Initially I believed that Ziggy intended to hide any information referencing Mother that the Four Shining Stars knew but the theory Shiki presented in regards to Ziggy expecting to fall to the dark side put the past in a whole new context. Ziggy anticipated falling to the Dark Side and in hopes of establishing a safeguard against himself, he chose to abandon his mission to find Mother and focus on developing Shiki as a counter to his power. All in order to prevent what Ziggy feared deeply – the end of coexistence.

Edens Zero Chapter 187 – Shiki VS Wizard: Blind Spot

Edens Zero Chapter 187 - Shiki faces off against Wizard

The implications pertaining to the revelation at the end of the chapter echoes a deeper regard toward the history of the constructs of Ziggy. Why do they know each other and when did they have the chance to encounter each other? Were the Shining and Dark Stars “created” by Ziggy or transformed by him into the form they now take. Unlike any of the other robots Ziggy has created, the Shining and Dark Stars bear a close resemblance to humans in the form they take – why? Why not design your elite force to look more mechanical than human? Could it be that the Shining and Dark Stars aren’t machines by origin but in fact humans who at some point Ziggy decided to save/use by reviving their minds in a mechanical body?
