Hermit’s measured reaction to Killer’s unhinged madness was intensely phenomenal. While Killer manically boast over accessing Overdrive, Hermit is just there observing his ignorance before unleashing her own ascension into Overdrive. The climatic reveal with Hermit looking down on Killer in her empowered form before responding to Killer’s silenced state with “so was I” was exceptionally glorious. I love it. What a badass, Hermit. Her Overdrive form looks incredible. That almost smug expression (in the best kind of ways) on Hermit’s face while awakening her Overdrive and staring at Killer told everyone enough to know how she triumphed over Killer in that pre-psychological battle taking place. Killer getting a taste of his own taunts was surprisingly satisfying.

[Analysis] Edens Zero – Ether Association And The Chronophage

Ether is more than just a power but the breath of the universe sustaining its functionality. It is an energy that flows through all things and associates with all matter, whether it be tangible, ethereal or formless. It isn’t restricted by state and is in essence an aspect of the universe that exist beyond space and time. Accordingly, not only living beings can access the body of Ether, it is by the nature of the universe, present in everything. The implication of such a perspective means the reactions of Ether can be achieved by both living and inanimate objects. Overdrive is an instance achievable by any matter not just those able to utilise an Ether Gear.

[Theory] Edens Zero – How Witch Can Return Using The Chronophage

One of the most fascinating and creative aspects of Edens Zero are the existence of Chronophages which presents a unique spin on the time-travel mechanic popular in science fiction stories. Rather than tethering space and time into one encapsulating concept where time overarches all space, the Chronophage distort that reality and detaches time from the overall space, restricting it to just the space in their proximity. What this allows for are time-travel instances that don’t drag the whole world setting along with its momentum. It introduces a more manageable mechanic existing outside time paradoxes that is just as fascinating as general time travel if not more. You can have two version of a character present in the same time or a planet saved from the corruption of insatiable greed by turning its present state into a past form. Additionally, another event that is theoretically possible using the nature of the Chronophage is having a fallen character return back into the story i.e. Witch.

Edens Zero Chapter 180 – Summoning The Chronophage

One of the most creative concepts Mashima-sensei introduced in Edens Zero and once again it continues to fascinate. The Chronophage, it was bound to resurface sooner or later and it appears that in an arc where Ziggy is the enemy residing on a planet that has been converted into an living military android production factory, the circumstances have aligned to bring it back into focus. The Chronophage is an existence that is drawn to time and for yet unknown reasons, consumes time. Whether it is for sustenance or accumulation of energy for a certain objective, too little is known at present to lean on any specific conclusion. I suspect though that there is an intention driving the Chronophage’s actions, one that is very particular about the planets targeted.
