The fall from a summit toward the depths awaiting below is a solitary and desolate occurrence. In a realm where one sits above all, the only companion to the journey on the way down are the echo’s of anguish perpetuating the regrets confounding the mind. Big Mom stood against the generations but when faced with those emboldened by the life of the Pirate King, her incomprehensible throne cracked and shattered. She cursed the dead but in the end, she had her time and failed to consolidate on it. Now, in face of her Emperor status, challengers arose to sweep across a new era to replace the old. In the eyes of this generation, Big Mom was not an enemy beyond their capabilities but merely an obstacle in the way of their journey toward their personal destinations. The era of the Yonko is over and it is time for the New Generation to step forward and grab the Age by its reigns.

Many a times was the knock of destiny cast unto the gates of the era yet such an inevitable echo went unheard by those disillusioned with the thrones they imprisoned themselves on. Change is inevitable with the motion of time yet rather than embrace such a reality, it was their hubris that changed to conceal the truth right before their eyes. Power is dangerous. It attracts the worst and corrupts the best. Only those who are prepared to lower themselves to pick it up are able to see it for what it really is. Big Mom should have opened her eyes and saw what was in front of her but she continued to remain blind denying the reality surrounding her. And such a rejection has now paved the path unto which she is cast down from her position as Emperor. The next generation have arrived and they are done knocking.

One Piece Chapter 1038 – Kid & Law VS Big Mom: Defiance

The Yonko are indeed the titans of the current age whom influence macro and micro decisions of varying factions existing across the Grand Line. When you have someone like Big Mom who destroyed one of the leaders of the Elbaf Giants as a child and continues to threaten the role of the Marines through her dealings with the Underworld and her pursuit of becoming Pirate King, it is little wonder why her name evokes terror whenever whispered. And beyond Charlotte Linlin there is Kaido, Shanks and Teach. Each of these mysterious characters are elevated to the positions they hold by the power they possess. Their name, status and reputation ensured any challenge directed their way was kept to a minimum. But it is this hubris that blinded them to the true threat of the Worst Generation. Even now, Big Mom rejects such a reality. Her biggest and most severe misstep she has taken in her tenure as a Yonko is underestimating the opponents currently before her. The defiance Law and Kid have expressed has literally stopped Big Mom in her tracks.

It is becoming increasing clear that the force that will challenge the current age won’t be just the Straw Hat Pirates but the next generation as a whole. Those that represent the powers standing against the status quo will be the architects for the future age for all intents and purposes. The Straw Hat Pirates won’t be alone in their fight against the past. As such, the focus given to the allies supporting the Straw Hat Pirates isn’t just a passing acknowledgement of their relevance but rather an expression of their continued importance to the change about to arise.

One Piece Chapter 1013 – The Might Of The Yonko

None of the challengers so far facing off against Big Mom and Kaido have yet to escape the gaping chasm of differing power levels that exist between the Emperor and themselves. Page One encountered Big Mom and was taken out by one hit. Likewise, Ulti, looking for an avenue to vent her rage sourced from witnessing Page One getting injured has met the same fate when facing off against Big Mom. After one hit from Big Mom’s Master Cannon, Ulti is unconscious and defeated. The only two characters that have somewhat challenged the Yonko are Luffy and Zoro. Yet, both are incapacitated with Zoro momentarily out of commission and Luffy unconscious plummeting from Onigashima floating in the sky toward the ocean below or the Wano mainland if Onigashima has reached it. Will an ‘ally’ able to traverse the skies save Luffy or will the awaiting ground or ocean below greet Luffy with its vast embrace?

One Piece Chapter 1012 – Nami: Unwavering Resolve

Nami may have a tendency to fall on the side of self-preservation in the face of exceedingly powerful opponents but there are times when the spirit behind her nature draws a line. A point at which she can’t bring herself to turn and run away from. And that threshold is witnessing a child get injured in front of her. It may be a nature inherited from her mother, Bell-mère, but whenever a child in front of her needs help, Nami will not budge until she helps them. Right now, a threat to Tami exist in the form and Ulti and Nami has made it her responsibility to protect Tama by defeating Ulti. The odds may be stacked against Nami but in this moment, she stands against opponents far strongest than her because behind her is someone she needs to protect.

One Piece Chapter 1011 – Code Of Honor

If the Beast Pirates knew beforehand that Okobore Town were associated with Linlin would they have acted differently? They certainly would have reconsidered burning the town to the ground and chosen a path more merciful if only to save themselves later down the line. But such a thing didn’t happen and now Big Mom’s anger has been directed toward Kaido’s followers who harmed those she is indebted to. Even with her positioned at the top of the criminal world, she has principles she adheres to and injuring those who showed kindness to her is one of those lines she dare not cross. Big Mom never had any loyalty to the alliance with the Beast Pirates and only endured it as a necessary stepping stone on her path toward her dream. If Linlin’s treatment of Page One is anything to go by, she is mad and those that burned Okobure Town to the ground now have the shadow of death behind them. The code of honor they failed to follow will now be beaten into them.

One Piece Chapter 1009 – Big Mom’s Weakness

In the face of the otherworldly power Linlin possesses it becomes hard to perceive that behind such a destructive force, there is a glaring weakness in Big Mom’s fighting style. It became apparent during the Whole Cake Island Arc and is now on full display during the cliff hanger of this chapter. The Soru Soru no Mi grants Linlin immense power but due to her hubris and unrestrained arrogance, she has become completely intoxicated by the superior nature of her Devil Fruit abilities that it has blinded her to her own inabilities. At present, Big Mom is not even aware how lacking she is without the assistance of her main Homies. Once she reaches the bottom of her fall though, she will quickly come to reconcile the slip in her step.

One Piece Chapter 1003 – Luffy And Zoro VS Kaido

The qualities of an emperor are on full display within this chapter. Despite Luffy’s loss to Kaido earlier in the arc when he was completely overwhelmed, Luffy identified a path forward and during the two weeks leading up to the Fire Festival, training was undergone to prepare himself for the battle against Kaido. The inability to injure Kaido was the hurdle Luffy needed to overcome and thanks to Hyogoro and Luffy’s tenacity, Luffy was able to advance his Haki. The speechlessness of Big Mom and the pressured reaction of Kaido conveys how extraordinary Luffy’s growth is.

One Piece Chapter 1002 – Yonko VS The Next Generation

Immense is the obstacle before the next generation yet impossible is something it is not. Unbeknownst to the Yonko before them, the conviction behind the next generation’s acts carries the belief and capability that a possibility which should be improbable is entirely within reach. And in no small part is the underestimation of their abilities playing a part in seeing the pillars of the New World toppled. The Yonko have continually looked down on their younger rivals allowing for a blindspot within the Yonko’s perception of possibility to conjure itself. The lack of expectation and belief the Yonko have in their opponents capabilities will ultimately lead to their eventual downfall.
