One Piece Chapter 873 – Big Mom’s Rage

I’m still surprised Big Mom hasn’t figured out how she got her Devil Fruit powers…

With the Straw Hat Pirates rapidly set upon by Big Mom, what can they do to escape the Island and her territory? Will they be able to outrun Big Mom? Will they fight? Will they somehow manage to quell Big Mom’s rampage? And even if they do, what will that change? Big Mom despises Luffy and other than a miracle stretched to its extreme’s, Big Mom and Luffy will continue to be at odds with one another, especially with them both vying for the title of Pirate King. Would the truth behind Mother Caramel’s disappearance affect that relation? I somehow doubt it given the focus the Big Mom Pirates have received as antagonist but what will be interesting is whether Big Mom will be exposed to the truth about Mother Caramel within this arc or in a future arc.

One Piece Chapter 872 – The Fall Of Wholecake Chateau

I really thought the castle was already made out of cake =P

The Tamatebako explosion has damaged the base of Wholecake Chateau causing it to collapse towards the town. In order to save the Big Mom Pirates, Streusen utilises his Devil Fruit ability to change the Wholecake Chateau into cream and sponge ultimately negating the damage the Big Mom Pirates and the citizens would have received from the fall of the Chateau. Having become such a relevant character recently, Streusen’s story will most definitely have a hand in Big Mom’s eventual defeat. Big Mom herself will also likely assist in her own demise as a result of her rage mode. Could Big Mom go so far as eating one of her children while in that state – she has eaten people before while in a frenzied state?

One Piece Chapter 871 – The Tamatebako

Well this is an awkward position to be in. I have been so strongly for Big Mom being defeated in this arc in my arguments but with this chapter, everything I was expecting has been twisted around completely. In particular, the comment Luffy made about Big Mom being his next target after Kaidou. Does Oda-sensei REALLY plan to deal with Kaidou’s defeat before Big Mom’s? I find myself at a loss for how exactly to structure my thinking now. Will Big Mom be defeated? Or as it now likely appears, will Big Mom be too strong for the Straw Hat Pirates, that they are forced to retreat to live to fight her another day (when the whole crew is gathered)?

With the Totto Land Arc entering it’s climax as the Straw Hat Pirates and allies face off against the Big Mom Pirates, it is only a matter of time before the Tamatebako that was introduced back during the Fishman Island Arc fulfills its purpose. It seems unlikely that the opening of the Tamatebako would be held off for a future arc given the focus it received throughout the Totto Land Arc and with Big Mom’s defeat seeming inevitably set for the conclusion of this arc. Additionally, the Tamatebako has been tied directly with Big Mom since the Fishman Island Arc when the Big Mom Pirates acquired it and with this arc dealing predominantly with Big Mom and her defeat, the Tamatebako’s purpose will be revealed during this arc. With that in mind, the opening of the Tamatebako will serve as the event needed to weaken Big Mom and provide Luffy with the opportunity he requires to defeat her.

One Piece Chapter 870 – In Order To Escape

Hell yeah, I was hoping this would happen!

Regardless of how irrational Sanji and Luffy’s decision were, it was the right decision, it felt right, it felt more than right, it felt amazing. With the Big Mom Pirates overwhelming the alliance and seemingly under the delusion that they hold a place of superiority over their enemies, it was hard not to feel the desire to want the Straw Hat Pirates to cut loose and release themselves, bringing ruin to yet another Colossal powerhouse within the world. It is not the Straw Hat Pirates who are underestimating the Big Mom Pirates but the Big Mom Pirates who are underestimating the Straw Hat Pirates, hence why they thought they had every right and power to ‘abduct’ Sanji away from the rest of the crew on Zou without any repercussions. Luffy and Sanji now intend to convey how wrong the Big Mom Pirates were.
