Thanks to the element of the Tartarus demons being able to be revived at the resurrection lab in Cube, the Mirajane and Sayla battle became significantly more meaningful, especially when Lamy spilled the beans and revealed the purpose of the lab, “Hell’s Core”. The way Mirajane dealt with the lab and Tartarus’s ability to revive themselves was quite surprising and impressive, I certainly did not expect Mirajane to have taken control of the tentacle thing in the lab, but regardless, seeing Mirajane destroy the reviving containers with Ezel and Franmalth inside was totally satisfying. The main highlight of the chapter though was Sayla and her released demon form, she overwhelmed Mirajane (in her Sitri form) instantaneously after transforming, it was shockingly good. The appearance of the Tartarus Demon King, topped off an already great chapter with another exciting development.
From the moment Franmalth boasted about Tartarus being able to revive themselves and being “immortal”, it became obvious that Franmalth wasn’t going to get revived, such a comedic end fits a character like him. Still it was a great scene to introduce the Mirajane vs Sayla fight which just became even more meaningful with the defeated Tartarus demons being revived there.
It was also interesting to learn that Sayla’s macro had no effect on Mirajane, looks like her demon takeover ability granted her an immunity to being controlled herself. The same applied to Sayla as well, with her macro ability, she was able to gain an immunity to Mirajane’s demon takeover. With Sayla still having her macro effect over Elfman, I wonder how she is going to use that later on, and can Elfman break free from Sayla’s macro?
Lamy blurting out the purpose of “Hell’s Core” and revealing to Mirajane and Lisanna the importance the lab serves to Tartarus was a major slip of the tongue from her. But thanks to her ‘derp’ reaction after realising the fact, we were reminded of type of comical character Lamy is and provided with a scene in which Mirajane can shine.
Mirajane followed up Lamy’s mistake with a show of brilliance on her part, destroying all the revive containers with her takeover ability. It’s crazy impressive that Mirajane was able to takeover the tentacles handling the reviving and damaging them all until they broke the reviving machines. I guess Lamy’s loose lips really did sink that ship – pitiful girl.
Sayla’s limit release was unexpectedly awesome, and her design in her released form, it is terrifyingly beautiful. The way she overwhelmed Mirajane who was in her Sitri takeover form was shocking but this revs up immensely the intensity this arc now has, especially if other demons in Tartartus have the similar levels of ability and power that Sayla just displayed. I doubt Mirajane is down for the count, but it was nice seeing Sayla unleash.
Sayla is one of the most intriguing demons in Tartarus given her non-demonic characterised personality, her obsession for books and the unique ability/curse she wields (macros). Having extra focus centered around her isn’t so bad, especially if it involves bringing to light some of the mysteries hidden away in the shadows of Tartarus.
The appearance of Tartarus’s Demon King, Marde Guille, signals the plan of the demons finally coming into light, which I am very much looking forward to as I still find myself confused about Tartarus’s true goals. The fact that the Demon King has formed a contract with Zeref’s demons to grant them the ability to be reborn is interesting but concerning as the Kyuukimon may very be the tip of the iceberg concerning the existence of demons.
Also what has me interested is the fact that Marde is sitting on the throne of Tartarus with E.N.D., the guild master of Tartarus, in his hands. What type of relationship does E.N.D. and Marde exactly have and could this be the uneasy feeling Kyouka had concerning E.N.D. not being able to see the plan of Face executed? Does Kyouka even know about Marde and his exact influence on Tartarus? The same applies to Zeref, does he know about Marde? It may just be that Marde could be running the show and E.N.D. one of his pieces =/. Still as of now, Marde is comforting E.N.D. in the fact that he believes demons (Sayla) to be more powerful than humans who attempt to use demon powers (Mirajane). Marde does seem extremely conceited, so it will be refreshing to see Mirajane rise up and counter Sayla. With the appearance of the Demon King of Tartarus and E.N.D., I am very much looking forward to the next chapter.
